Product Description

Enforce protection and productivity policies and block inappropriate, unproductive and even illegal web content with Dell™ SonicWALL™ Content Filtering Service (CFS) and Dell™ SonicWALL™ Content Filtering Client (CFC). Use the dynamic rating and caching architecture of CFS and its granular tools to create and apply web use policies that allow or deny end users access to websites that contain objectionable web content. Extend the enforcement of those internal policies to laptops located outside the firewall perimeter and block unwanted internet content with the CFC. For a deeper level of web usage visibility, send data from the content filtering services to the Dell SonicWALL Analyzer traffic analytics and reporting package, and leverage its graphs, charts and data search functionalities. Because you can configure and manage the content filtering services directly on your firewall, you’ll strengthen your security and save money by eliminating the need for a costly, dedicated filtering server.

Throughput Guide

When it comes to sizing your firewall requirement based on network throughput, the following observation may be useful.

Vendor tests are based on specific packet sizes and formats and often don't reflect the real world environment that the firewall will be used in.  As soon as you start to turn on services like anti-malware (application control) or anti-spyware/anti-virus, the amount of processing power and ram that is consumed by the firewall quickly grows.

Vendors that show a figure for Full DPI throughput are likely to be showing you a figure close to the speed you will achieve with all the services turned on.  If there is just an IPS/UTM throughput figure then we have seen the true throughput be around 1/3rd of that published.  For example if there is a UTM figure published of 515Mb/s, in a real world environment with all services turned on, we would expect the maximum result to be around 175Mb/s.

We have over 15 years of experience with 1000's of firewalls in differing environments from Data Centres to home offices -  If you are unsure how to size a unit or need a little advice, do get in contact, we have the knowledge and expertise.
